Goodwin Tech Students Compete in the 2015 NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge
May 11, 2015
EC Goodwin Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) Department Head Joe Granja along with UConn/NSF GK-12 fellow Tulsi Patel advised a group of senior CADD students on designing and building a lunar rover. The design entailed many criteria that made the rover suitable for lunar soil, mainly: non-pneumatic wheels, being man-powered, and both weight and volume restrictions
It was a learning experience for the students with all the challenges it posed, but in the process they gained many skills and had fun. The group traveled to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama during April vacation and competed in the 2015 NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge. The team finished 28th among all high school teams.
