E.C. Goodwin Technical High School is part of the Regional School Choice Office’s (RSCO) network of 44 magnet schools.  Established by the Connecticut State Department of Education, RSCO serves as a centralized resource to support families as they explore and apply to a variety of free prekindergarten through grade 12 public school choice options in the Greater Hartford Region. The RSCO School Choice System offers students a wide range of school choice options and brings together families from over 40 towns in diverse and engaging learning environments.

RSCO also manages the application and placement process for these schools. Families apply through RSCO’s easy-to-use online application platform where parents and guardians can manage applications for all their children. Families only need to create one RSCO account and should use the same account each year to submit applications.

It’s the perfect opportunity to explore our programs, tour the shops and classrooms, meet the staff, and learn how CTECS combines hands-on training with a high-quality academic education.

Application Information

Students who will be entering 9th grade in the Fall of 2027:
The on-time application period for the 2027-28 school year opens on December 2, 2026, and closes on February 5, 2027. Applying during the on-time period is one of the best ways to increase the chance of receiving a placement offer.

The following priorities are used in the placement process and can increase the chance of a placement when seats become available. To receive priority, you must apply during the on-time application period and make the school your first choice. Applicants receive priority in the order listed below.

  • Enrolled Sibling
  • Employee/Staff
  • Placed Sibling

Once an applicant receives a placement offer, they must complete registration within the timeframe provided. Failure to register will result in the placement offer being administratively declined and the seat will be offered to another applicant on the waitlist. 

The late application will open on a limited basis the week of March 8, 2027. Please log in to your RSCO account for up-to-date information to see if our school is still accepting applications during this period.

Current 9th grade students interested in transferring in the 2026-27 school year:
Current grade 9 students interested in transferring into Cheney Tech, Goodwin Tech and Prince Tech for mid-year or fall admittance can apply on the CTECS district webpage.

Current Grade 8 Students: The on-time application period for the 2027-28 school year opens on December 2, 2026, and closes on February 5, 2027. Current Grade 9 Students: Grade 9 students applying for a mid-year transfer or fall 2027 enrollment into grade 10 can apply beginning November 15 using CTECS online application.

Any eighth-grade student who is a resident of the State of Connecticut who expects to successfully complete eighth grade is eligible to apply for fall admission to ninth grade during the eighth-grade school year.

Any ninth-grade student who is a resident of the State of Connecticut who expects to successfully complete ninth grade with 7 academic credits is eligible to apply for 9th grade and/or fall admission to tenth grade subject to the availability of open seats at a CTECS technical high school.  Applicants for entry into tenth grade may be required to satisfy career pathway remediation plans to learn skills that were taught in ninth grade.

Student’s applications may be considered for admission through October 1 of their 10th grade year. CTECS cannot admit new students after this date due to the nature of our trade program requirements for graduation.

  1. Let your school counselor (if none, another school official) know you are going to apply.  
    • They will receive an email from the CTECS school district requesting information.
    • You will need their correct email address to enter into the application.
  1. Review the website of the school you want to apply for.
    • Confirm you are in their geographical region and are eligible for free bus transportation to the CTECS school.  You will find a map on the school’s website “about” page.
  1. Review the trade(s) you are interested in and learn about the m, including course descriptions and prospective jobs.  Be sure the trade you are interested in is offered at the school you are applying to by reviewing the school’s website under “programs”.

Current 8th Grade Applicants for Cheney, Goodwin, or Prince only:
December 2: The On Time application opens 

February 5: Application closes

February 23: Placement notifications from the Regional School Choice Office.

March 15: Additional Notification of CTECS Placements open on a limited, as-needed basis.

March-June: CTECS Registration

May – Summer: A range of onboarding events are held for students who are in the admissions process for a CTECS high school.

Current 9th Grade Transfer Applicants only:
The application for 9th grade transfers is open from November 15 to January 25. Apply on the CTECS district website for a mid year transfer into grade 9 or entrance into grade 10 in fall 2027. Note:  Transfer admission are subject to the availability of open seats at a CTECS technical high school.
