Gladiators Respect the Game
We are proud to welcome families, students, alumni, and visiting spectators to Goodwin Technical High School athletic events. Our athletic contests are an extension of our school classrooms, and everyone attending is expected to help create a safe, positive, and respectful environment for student-athletes, coaches, officials, and fellow spectators.
🧡 SUPPORT YOUR TEAM
- Cheer enthusiastically for the Gladiators.
- Celebrate great plays by both teams.
- Encourage our student-athletes with positive comments and support.
- Remember that these are high school student-athletes, not professional athletes.
- Allow the players to play, the coaches to coach, and the officials to officiate.
🖤 RESPECT THE OFFICIALS
- Accept officials’ decisions, even when you disagree.
- Do not yell at, threaten, intimidate, or insult officials.
- Do not follow officials after the contest or confront them about calls.
- Questions or concerns regarding officiating should be directed through the appropriate school or athletic department channels.
The NFHS specifically emphasizes that spectators should support their teams rather than direct hostility toward officials or opponents.
🧡 RESPECT THE OPPONENT
- Cheer for Goodwin rather than against the opposing team.
- No taunting, heckling, personal attacks, or inappropriate chants.
- Do not make comments about an opposing athlete’s appearance, ability, family, or personal circumstances.
- Recognize and acknowledge outstanding plays by either team.
- Treat visiting athletes, coaches, families, and fans with respect.
🖤 APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE & BEHAVIOR
The following will not be tolerated:
- Profanity or obscene language
- Threatening or intimidating behavior
- Personal attacks
- Harassment of players, coaches, officials, or spectators
- Fighting or physical confrontation
- Discriminatory, racist, or hateful comments
- Throwing objects
- Excessive or inappropriate taunting
CIAC’s sportsmanship standards specifically call for spectators to cheer positively, refrain from negative cheering against opponents, and respect officials and the National Anthem.
🧡 REMEMBER WHO YOU REPRESENT
When you attend a Goodwin athletic event, you represent more than yourself. Your behavior reflects on your family, our student-athletes, our school, and the Goodwin community.

⚠️ CONSEQUENCES
Goodwin Technical High School reserves the right to remove any spectator who violates these expectations. No refunds will be given.
A spectator who is removed from an athletic contest may also be subject to additional restrictions or suspension from future athletic events, consistent with school, conference, CIAC, and facility policies.
The NFHS recommends proactive enforcement of spectator expectations, including removal when behavior becomes unsportsmanlike or disruptive.
