2016 Duct Tape Boat Race

October 7, 2016

The E.C. Goodwin ECE UConn Physics class built a boat from duct tape and cardboard to compete against 25 other high schools and UCONN staff and students sponsored by the UCONN ECE program.  The ultimate STEM activity! On a sunny day about 70 degrees and calm sea conditions the race took place with 4 heats along the shore of Long Island Sound at the UConn Avery Point campus on Eastern Point. The E.C. Goodwin boat called Gladiator was paddled to the finish by Seniors, Kaylah Medvec and David Plourde with an outstanding 5 place overall finish. E.C. Goodwin is very proud to have this strong finish and we also are proud that one of the competitors that beat us was our sister school Windham Technical High School that also competed in this race for the first time ever. There were many boats that sank along the way but the water was perfect J There were many students who made this a success, 3 were voted by their peers as MVP, Captain and Co-Captain. Respectively they were Anthony Carcia, William Diaz, and Nicholas Harkey.
