Presidential Service Award Presented to Goodwin Tech Student

On Wednesday, March 25th, Principal Daniel Mello of EC Goodwin Technical High School, presented Senior Manufacturing Technology student Cindy Pena with The President’s Service Award for her “… commitment to strengthen our nation and communities through her volunteer service.” Ms. Pena, one of the Class of 2015’s top students, has been an active volunteer in all 4 years that she has been at Goodwin with her involvement with the National Honor Society as an escort for previous Red Cross Blood Drives, and as this year’s Chairperson of the NHS Blood Drive Initiative. Ms. Pena has also been very active with the annual Goodwin Food Drive, and this year served as the Chairperson/Planner of this year‘s food drive. Cindy is also very active in the New Britain community as a volunteer at the Northend Elementary School YMCA as a tutor and a supervisor of various activities for the children at that location. Ms. Pena also volunteers as a Certified Assistant in the HRA Income Tax Assistance program.

In presenting this award to Ms. Pena on the Goodwin Morning News Program, Principal Mello cited the letter that accompanied the Award from President Obama stating, “…your volunteer service demonstrated the kind of commitment to your community that moves America a step closer to its great promise….Thank you for your devotion to service and for doing all you can to shape a better tomorrow for our great Nation.” Barack Obama, President of the United States of America.
